Jim Barrett-Smith: Dog Photography Done With True Love & Passion

March 19, 2022

We are dog photographers who want to give dog owners a special experience and deliver pictures that they can cherish forever. We are not turn and burn photographers, every dog photography experience is 1 to 3 hours, we work at the pace of the dog.

We care about the welfare of the dog and a stressed photoshoot is not good for them. All our packages include a premier picture for the wall, after all what is the point of coming to have your photograph if you are not going to put the picture on the wall?

As you can guess there is no upsell, no high pressure sales, i hate it when it happens to me and i am not going to impose such tactics on anyone else.

Tell us about yourself?

I have had dogs all my life until I got married. My wife is allergic to dogs, so the only way i can get to see dogs is to photograph them.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Ignore the marketers and do what you think is right

What problem does your business solve?

Professionally capturing a picture of your dog, allowing you to cherish their memory forever. I still have the professional picture of my first dog which i look at every day and is now 31 years old

What is the inspiration behind your business?

My love for dogs. Due to covid, my wedding business went quiet so hurrah I finally had time to work on the dog business. A lot of dog photographers work outside but this is a problem due to the British weather hence we built the studio. No matter what the weather or the time of year we can always photograph your dog. We work 7 days per week and into the evenings to give our customers as much flexibility as possible.

What is your magic sauce?

A dog photography experience, instead of just getting your dog photographed. This means, 2 hour session, free parking, complimentary drinks and snack for dog and owner, see pictures on a 42″ TV as they are being taken, changing room, make up station and so the list goes on.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

To photograph every dog breed registered by the Kennel club, and write a book about setting up a dog photography studio in sunny norfolk

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Covid has been the biggest headache but we are now over the hump and bookings are increasing

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

I would like dog breeders and dog rescue homes to work with me
