The DevelopHER Awards is a not for profit awards ceremony that aims to shine a light on women in the industry already doing incredible work and to create role models for the next generation.
Tell us about yourself?
I am a software developer myself and I was shocked by the gender imbalance in the industry and wanted to show the next generation what an awesome place to work it is and all the incredible jobs available.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself to believe in myself more, specifically in my role as a developer.
What problem does your business solve?
The DevelopHER Awards aims to celebrate women in technology.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
I went to a networking event when I first started out in the industry back in 2012 with very few other women and I was genuinely shocked. I took it upon myself to try and fight the stereotypes and encourage the next generation to change the balance.
What is your magic sauce?
We work alongside other organisations with similar missions, but are the only awards ceremony for women in tech in East anglia and its wonderful to see women being recognised.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
We want to create many more role models and make even more women feel invincible when they stand on stage and receive an award.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
It takes a whole community to support the awards, getting nominations is one of the hardest parts of organising the event but it takes persistence and continued exposure to ensure that every year we get more nominations for more incredible women.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
Our event is completely funded by sponsors and we’re always on the lookout for more. All our sponsorship packages are available to view on our website at developherawards.com
