James Swanston

James is the founder of Voyage Control, a technology business focused on making freight deliveries. James is an advisor to Lord Mawson OBE for the St Paul’s Way Transformation Project, one of the UK’s biggest regeneration projects based in East London, with a focus on encouraging students to look at science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and enterprise. James is the chair of the Transport Working Group of the Energy Managers Association, founded by Lord Redesdale to help major UK businesses to help address the challenges of energy scarcity and climate change. He was recently listed in the Tech City Almanac as one of the 100 key figures helping to redefine digital business in London. He is a director of Green and Tonic, a fast growing networking group for sustainability leaders in London and has previously assisted the Sustainable Development Commission on smart mobility and was awarded the Greenbang award for smart transport in 2011. James regularly speaks at events on sustainability and entrepreneurship topics. He has been granted the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, one of the City of London’s oldest livery companies and has been made a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He has served as an officer in the Australian and British Armies, including tours of duty in Malaysia, East Timor, Iraq, Falkland Islands and Afghanistan; he currently commands the City of London Fusiliers Company of the London Regiment. He spent several years in Australian military intelligence, where he established a multi-discipline team working on the fusion of intelligence collection and analysis across different technical intelligence sources, for which he was awarded the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation’s Outstanding Service Award.
