Charlie Blair
Marine Technology Accelerator Manager of Carbon Trust
Charlie leads the Carbon Trust’s work on Marine Energy, bringing the technology to market quicker and at lower cost. He is responsible for delivery of the Marine Renewables Commercialisation Fund for the Scottish Government, an £18 million fund that will support the first arrays of marine energy devices in Scottish Waters. Charlie is also working on an industry consortium supported by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult in Glasgow to develop enabling innovations for early wave and tidal arrays. He was involved in the installation of 6 full-scale prototype devices at EMEC through the Carbon Trust’s Marine Renewables Proving Fund, and supports Carbon Trust work on the European SI Ocean initiative. Charlie is also involved in work on other technologies by the Carbon Trust Innovation team (particularly electricity storage, micro-generation and electric vehicles; and generic commercial support to low carbon innovators). Charlie has over ten years’ experience commercialising innovative emerging energy technologies. Before joining the Carbon Trust in 2010 he worked as a strategic energy consultant, both for his own company and for Delta Energy & Environment in Edinburgh. He has experience analysing markets and business plans for a number of emerging energy technologies other than marine, particularly distributed generation, electricity storage and solar PV. Charlie has a first class Geography Degree from Durham and an MSc in Environmental Technology (Energy Policy) from Imperial College London
