In its heyday, some 90,000 people would cram into London’s White City Stadium to watch the English Greyhound Derby.

Although the popularity of the sport has diminished somewhat in recent years, there’s still a sizable and loyal greyhound racing community across the UK and Ireland that travels to watch the latest action.

Podcasts to Help you Prepare

The 2023 English Greyhound Derby, which will be held during the final week of May following a series of qualifying races, is expected to be well-attended once again at Towcester Racecourse, with fans old and young turning out to see if Fromposttopillar, the 14/1 favourite in the dog racing betting odds for the Derby, can see off the likes of Hopes Paddington, Romeo Command and Ballymac Finn to land the £175,000 top prize.

To mark your card ahead of the big race, you might want to tune in to the best greyhound racing podcasts to get the latest analysis and insight. Here’s a handful of shows that fit the bill:

Sky Racing Radio’s ‘Going Greyhounds’

You may or may not know that Sky Sports has its own radio station, with one of its most popular weekly broadcasts being the Going Greyhounds podcast.

There are three new episodes aired every week, with topics ranging from the latest news stories and interviews with the top trainers to betting tips offered up by some of the sport’s most respected thinkers.

Hosted by the likes of Kat Ernst, Simon Orchard and Russell Veitch, you can listen to or download the Going Greyhounds podcast from all of the popular locations such as Apple Podcasts and Audible.

Talking Dogs on Thursday

Irish connections will have a strong presence at the English Greyhound Derby meeting in May and into June, so it could yield dividends to hear the latest updates from across the Irish Sea.

There’s arguably no better place to do that than with Talking Dogs on Thursday, which takes a deep dive into the Irish greyhound circuit.

Hosted by Barry Drake, the podcast features interviews and insights from key figures in Irish racing, while chats with David Lynch, Michael O’Dwyer and Derby-winning trainer Ian Reilly will mark your card on their dogs to watch now and in the future.

You can listen to Talking Dogs on Thursday every (you guessed it!) Thursday via Apple Podcasts.

The Greyhound Club

As you may know, many of the leading bookmakers offer odds for international greyhound meetings – not just those taking place in Great Britain or Ireland.

The Greyhound Club podcast is of interest then as it delves into all matters relating to racing in Australia, where it remains an ever-popular sporting pastime.

There are chats with owners and trainers plus previews of all the key actions on the calendar; you may just pick up a tip or two along the way.

Greyhound Nation

If you prefer podcasts that are super-informative as well as analytical, Greyhound Nation could be for you.

Topics include breeding histories, adopting retired greyhounds, training tips (both on the track and at home) and how to ensure the wellness of your dogs.

By listening to these podcasts, your knowledge of greyhound racing will undoubtedly improve considerably!
