Fractional CFO/FD Support to Manufacturing

Fractional CFO and strategic finance support for manufacturing, distribution and international trading businesses. Helping business owners turn good sales into stronger profits, healthier cash flow and better commercial decisions.

Pauline Healey: Logical BI Limited

Tell us about yourself?

I’m a Fellow CIMA-qualified finance professional (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), hold an MBA in Executive Management and a BA (Hons) in International Business. Over the past 25 years I’ve worked in senior commercial finance and operational leadership roles, helping businesses improve profitability, strengthen cash flow and make better strategic decisions.

My grounding in international business goes far beyond the qualifications. I’ve negotiated supplier terms on factory floors in China across 19 visits, spent three weeks in Mexico assessing a manufacturing partner, and led a European logistics restructure ahead of Brexit. That combination of formal training and real, hands-on international experience means I don’t just understand the numbers – I understand how products are sourced, manufactured, moved and sold.

Today, I help manufacturers, distributors and businesses trading internationally access experienced CFO / Finance Director support without the cost of employing a full-time finance director. I become part of the leadership team, providing commercial insight, constructive challenge and financial clarity as the business grows.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Focus on what you do best and who you enjoy helping most.

Like many businesses, I initially offered a broader range of services than I do today. Over time I’ve deliberately sharpened Logical BI’s focus on manufacturing, distribution, engineering and international trading businesses because that’s where my experience creates the greatest value.

Having a clear niche has made the business easier to explain, easier for clients to understand and ultimately much easier to buy from.

What problem does your business solve?

Many growing businesses reach a point where they need strategic financial leadership but aren’t yet ready to employ a full-time CFO.

Logical BI bridges that gap by providing experienced Fractional CFO support on a flexible basis, also referred to Outsourced CFO or Finance Director support.

Support ranges from a focused two-hour Business Booster session through to ongoing Fractional CFO retainers, strategic projects and mentoring finance managers stepping into leadership roles.

Typical clients range from ambitious owner-managed businesses through to established companies with turnovers between £500k and £30m+, particularly manufacturers, distributors, engineers and businesses trading internationally. Many come to us because they need someone who understands not only finance, but also inventory, supply chains, international trade and the commercial realities of running product-based businesses.

Ultimately, clients engage me to improve profitability, unlock cash tied up in the business and provide the financial insight needed to make confident commercial decisions.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

My success is measured by the success of my clients.

Too many manufacturing and distribution business owners are winning new work but still wondering where the profit has gone. Others are making pricing, recruitment and investment decisions without having the financial visibility to fully understand the impact.

That’s exactly where the right Fractional CFO adds value.

Whether it’s through an ongoing retainer, a strategic project or a focused Business Booster session, my role is to help business owners gain clarity, improve profitability and strengthen cash flow so they can make better decisions with confidence.

Without reliable financial insight behind every decision, even successful businesses can quietly burn cash instead of building long-term value.

What is your magic sauce?

I combine CFO-level financial leadership with genuine operational and commercial experience.

Having spent more than 25 years inside manufacturing, engineering, distribution and international supply chains, I understand the operational decisions that sit behind the numbers, not just the financial reports themselves.

Rather than looking at finance in isolation, I connect sales, operations, inventory, working capital and financial reporting into one commercial picture. That allows business owners to see not just what happened last month, but what is likely to happen next and where opportunities exist to improve profit and cash flow.

Clients also work directly with me, giving them experienced, practical support from someone who has faced many of the same challenges inside businesses herself.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

One of the biggest milestones recently has been launching Profit Harmony® Hub, a CFO insight and development hub for growing businesses, supporting the owners, functional leads and finance managers, wanting a more structured way to improve profitability, cash flow and commercial decision making.

The platform is built around the same frameworks, tools and financial thinking I use with my Fractional CFO clients but packaged so business owners and finance teams can learn at their own pace, even if they’re not yet ready to appoint a Fractional CFO.

Over the next five years I want to continue growing both the Hub and my core CFO practice, helping more businesses move away from guesswork and towards genuine confidence in their numbers.

The vision underneath it all hasn’t changed: helping business owners make better decisions through stronger financial leadership, improved cash flow visibility and greater confidence in the numbers driving their business.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Like many business owners, balancing client delivery with growing my own business has been one of the biggest challenges.

Client work will always feel like the priority, but building a business also requires time spent on marketing, networking and developing new ideas.

One of the biggest lessons has been building the right team around me so I can spend more time where I add the greatest value, helping clients make better commercial decisions and supporting their long-term growth.
