As a fellow startup enthusiast, I’ve walked the challenging path of finding the perfect name for a brand or venture. That journey inspired me to create DroppedBy, a platform dedicated to helping people unearth the ideal identity for their startup or brand.

The frustration was real. Competitors grabbing hold of promising domains, only to resell them at inflated prices, was disheartening. Startups, often working with tight budgets, are left without access to those ideal brand names they envisioned.

DroppedBy emerged from this very frustration. It’s designed to level the playing field, providing a fair chance for startups to secure remarkable brand names without breaking the bank. I understand the struggle firsthand, and I wanted to create a solution that empowers entrepreneurs to access those perfect identities without financial barriers.

It simplifies the process by curating and delivering handpicked domains directly to users’ inboxes, saving time and effort in the often tedious and competitive domain hunting landscape. By offering this service for free and consistently updating users on available domains, DroppedBy aims to make the process of finding and claiming excellent domain names more accessible and convenient for individuals and businesses alike.

WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR BUSINESS?

The inspiration behind DroppedBy emerged from my own frustrations in navigating the labyrinth of expired domains. As a startup enthusiast, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of a great domain name in shaping an online presence. However, finding one that’s both available, impactful and affordable seemed like an endless quest.

I realized the process was convoluted, time-consuming, and often resulted in settling for less-than-ideal options. That’s when the spark for DroppedBy ignited – I wanted to simplify this process for everyone.

WHAT IS YOUR MAGIC SAUCE?

While there are other domain search platforms, DroppedBy stands out with its meticulous curation process. It doesn’t overwhelm users with an exhaustive list of domains but instead focuses on quality over quantity. Each domain is handpicked, ensuring that only the most promising options make it to users’ inboxes.

Not only this, our service is free, and the domains are unregistered, similar options register the domains, then sell them at a markup.

WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?

Focus on steadily growing the user base while fostering a strong community. Engage with users through feedback loops and possibly even user-generated content to enhance the platform’s value.

I want to further explore sustainable monetization avenues without compromising the core value of the service being free. I have already successfully partnered with NameCheap a successful and well-known ICANN-accredited domain name registrar, they typically have a 20% acceptance rate for partnerships. But I want to look at more valuable options for the end users.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE FACED SO FAR?

Navigating the competitive landscape within the domain industry poses its own set of challenges. Standing out among other domain services, attracting users, and finding innovative ways to add value while keeping the service free have been significant hurdles for me.

HOW DO PEOPLE GET INVOLVED/BUY INTO YOUR VISION?

Getting people involved and believing in the vision of DroppedBy is about communicating its essence and value passionately. When I talk to individuals about DroppedBy, I emphasize its purpose—to simplify domain hunting and make quality domains accessible to everyone.
