Katherine Kimber : We Are on a Mission to Strip Back on Nutrition Nonsense

August 9, 2022

We are on a mission to strip back on nutrition nonsense and help people to find a happy, healthy, trusting and freeing relationship with food and their body.

We take the most up-to-date evidence-based nutrition information and empower you to make changes to your health and lifestyle via personalised nutrition coaching.

Nude Nutrition was founded in 2017, by Registered Dietitian, Katherine Kimber. I have carefully selected a team of specialist registered Dietitian’s and professionals who have a wealth of experience in helping people heal from difficult relationships with food and their body.

We take a unique non-diet approach, specialise in helping people to cultivate body wisdom and trust through Intuitive Eating.

We work with those who feel stuck with food, those who experience eating disorders, disordered eating, and generally challenging relationships with food and their bodies. We aim to empower our clients to find body trust, food freedom, and happiness, to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

As professionals, we do this work as we have all experienced a troubled relationship with food and body image in some way or another.

There is no measuring, weighting calorie counting, tracking etc. We are very sensitive to this, and practice through a body inclusive lens. We hold our clients as the experts of their own bodies, and we don’t be offer another hidden diet!

Tell us about yourself?

There is a real focus on ‘weight loss’ for optimal health, with so many people looking to diets, fads and quick fixes. It’s understandable in the culture that we live in. In my NHS and private practice experience, I saw a huge number of clients who wanted to lose weight but without officially ‘dieting’.

Or, who had been through treatment for an eating disorder, but never felt fully recovered. They were often having difficulty with:

  • > Binge eating, compulsive eating, or feeling out of control around foods (usually after periods of being ‘good’, ‘healthy’ or ‘clean’)
  • > Emotional eating, anxiety eating, stress eating or comfort eating
  • > Eating when not hungry or eating past the point of comfortable fullness (overeating)
  • > Weight yo-yoing
  • > Food obsession and feeling guilty after eating

These are unfortunately just some of the side effects of focusing on weight loss that nobody ever really talks about. Some of this is exacerbated by confusion and caused by pseudoscience seen in the media.

I would often hear my clients say things like:

  • “I need to lose the weight first, and then I will tackle the other eating problems.”
  • “I know what I need to do, I just need some accountability and more self-control.”
  • “This time it’s different. I feel ready & motivated to lose the weight again and keep it off for good.”

Having delved into the research to support these clients, I realised they (and I) needed to turn away from dieting, food restriction and any other method of restriction in the pursuit of weight loss.

After all, the research proves that restriction leads to further weight gain over time, and can actually trigger the behaviours above.

So what is the magic? Is there really a way out? Thankfully there is, and it’s through non-diet approaches like Intuitive Eating.

I created Nude Nutrition, to help people who need something different. I draw upon this evidenced based approach as part of our method, to support you find food freedom.

Whether this be in recovery from chronic dieting, disordered eating, eating disorders, and just feeling stuck with food.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

I would remind myself to continue to trust myself, my needs and the process. To take time out, and create the space to listen to this.

What problem does your business solve?

I support people who struggle with their relationship with food, to feel empowered to trust, honour and listen to our own bodies so that they can find food freedom, happiness and ultimately, improved health and well-being.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

My business was inspired by having my own difficult relationship with food growing up, and then seeing the struggles people faced in the NHS and private weight loss sector.

It didn’t make sense. I am grateful to have learnt about newer research, and newer approaches to health and well-being that truly helps people to find a more sustainable approach to food once and for all.

What is your magic sauce?

We take a unique non-diet approach, specialise in helping you to cultivate body wisdom and trust through Intuitive Eating.

This is different to the typical messages we receive about food and our bodies which is about control, restriction, calorie counting, and external tools that take us away from being able to listen and trust their own bodies.

We work with those who feel stuck with food, those who experience eating disorders, disordered eating, and generally challenging relationships with food and their bodies. We aim to empower our clients to find body trust, food freedom, and happiness, to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

We would like to continue to reach a wider audience of people, who need the support with their relationship with food.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Niching my services down. Nude Nutrition was originally a business that was offering more general services. It always felt a risk to niche my services, however, it was the best decision I made.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We’re looking for businesses to collaborate with us, and also 1:1 clients who would like to heal their relationship with food once and for all.
