Tell us about yourself?
I have a background in science, specifically a PhD in mammalian embryology and worked in this area for a few years.
After this I retrained in IT and worked as a programmer for several years before starting my own marketing company. I initially created a company marketing fertility clinics abroad and learned all about SEO doing this.
I successfully sold this business 3 years ago. At the same time a the fertility marketing company, I started Alba SEO Services as I knew I could use my skills in SEO to help local businesses.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
To not believe that to be successful you need to employ lots of people.
What problem does your business solve?
We help businesses get more visibility in the search results and therefore attract more business leads.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
As discussed above, I was inspired to do this as a result of marketing fertility clinics and understanding what was involved in SEO.
What is your magic sauce?
We communicate well with our clients and treat them all equally regardless of size. Our clients know that we are at the other end of a call and are there to discuss their campaign at any time.
We report to our clients regularly formally too so they can see the stats. But many times a chat is also a good way of catching up.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
By focusing purely on SEO we are niche compared to other digital marketing companies. We want to continue to help our clients grow alongside ourselves.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The Coronavirus pandemic was challenging but not because we had a reduced workload but in fact were overwhelmed with work.
This meant that we had to evaluate our workloads and see where we needed extra help. Training new staff is very time consuming and what I have learned that actually taking on new staff isn’t always the right way to go to achieve a work life balance.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
Businesses in the UK who need a committed and experienced SEO company should take a look at us. We rarely lose clients and have had many for years.
