Caroline Whaley
Co-Founder of Shine for Women
“Caroline co-founded Shine for Women with Anna Baréz Brown in 2013. The company, which aims to make the corporate world a more human place, has reached thousands of women, over 75 different nationalities, across four continents. Having made an early decision that she never wanted to wear a suit, Caroline built her career in the adventure travel industry before joining Nike in 1996 where she spent 14 years in senior global brand marketing and GM roles in UK, Europe, North America and Latin America. Following this, Caroline spent three years with the Nike Foundation, leading public-private sector partnerships and creating new brands to inspire and shift social norms for millions of teenage girls living in Africa as the fastest route to eradicating global poverty. Through this work Caroline not only created brands that delivered huge positive impact in the world but also built a deep understanding of the ripple effect that happens when a young woman is empowered. Having led, coached and developed culturally diverse teams in highly competitive corporate and non-profit environments, Caroline has a passion for the power of human potential, whether on the field of play, the workplace or in making the world a better place. She continues to coach individuals and teams committed to changing the world through major brands such as Nike and Apple as well as through start-ups and social enterprises in Africa. Caroline is a qualified Organisational Relationships Systems Coach and holds an MBA with Distinction from Lancaster University. When not traveling extensively for work and pleasure, Caroline will be found plotting her next digital-detox adventure, whether cycling Lands End to John O’Groats, running the length of the Wessex Ridgeway with her two spaniels or sailing with her husband, Tim – all things that require her to be ‘all in’. And none that require her to wear a suit.”
