Kobus Paulsen
CEO of UC Group
There has been an ongoing dispute between Antigua and the United States over attempts by the United States to stop American citizens from using online gambling services operating from the Caribbean island. In 2005 the World Trade Organization ruled in favour of Antigua and dismissed the US appeal against the island. Kobus Paulsen, CEO of the UC Group, has advocated for many years that rather than trying to prevent US citizens from gambling online, the US Federal government would be better served by introducing a full regulatory process to guarantee proper consumer protection. As a member of the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, which was founded in 2007, Paulsen has seen this issue progress in recent years and with the recent decision of the state of New Jersey to allow regulated online gambling, there is a greater chance that other states will follow suit. Kobus Paulsen was born and educated in South Africa and from a young age was quick to adapt to new technologies. Whilst still in his homeland, he helped to develop the country’s first electronic publishing system. With his considerable technological knowhow and an ability to think out of the box, Paulsen was continually looking for methods of using technology to make the working processes simpler and more efficient for those using them. With his razor sharp mind and an in depth knowledge of new technologies, Kobus Paulsen was quick to appreciate that the full commercial value of the internet would only be realized when those using the systems had total trust in the integrity of trading online, both at consumer level and by those selling their services. So in 1999, having relocated to the United Kingdom, Kobus Paulsen founded the UC Group, precisely with the aim of providing a trusted and secure platform that would ensure the total integrity in the process of making online transactions. The group consisted of UC Capital and Secure Trading Group, with the former company acting very much as the investment arm of the business, whilst Secure Trading Group became recognized as a European leader in the provision of online payment processes. Many businesses now use the company’s software to ensure that their online consumers have complete protection on every occasion that they make an online purchase. In 2012 Paulsen acquired the Austrian company, Cognosec GmbH to as the latest member of the UC Group. The Viennese based company which specializes in providing management consulting services has helped the group’s influence expand globally and their recent Quality Security Assessor (QSA) accreditation means that they can now provide PCI DSS compliance audits across Europe; further consolidating the UC Group as the leader in its field. Kobus Paulsen’s achievements in the business world have only been possible because of the complete integrity and total honesty that he has displayed throughout his entire working career, combined with the exceptional standards and quality of work. He demands exactly the same from all those who work within his group and it is no surprise that the company fulfils its philosophy of providing its customers with the highest level of professionalism and customer service at all times.
