Elena is a former Research Associate on wearables at MIT MLE and Alumni of the Material Futures MA at Central Saint Martins in London. Her work brings science closer to people through the development of lifestyle consumer products using smart materials. “I use every day products as a vehicle to influence and empower smart consumerism. We are surrounded by intelligent devices yet being smart must also reflect being socially and environmentally committed. Innovation should not only be measured by the quality of our means but most importantly the real meaning behind what we create and consume” She presented her research at the MIT Technology Review Emerging Technologies Conference last October and became UK’s top 3 innovators of the year women in tech as well as 2n’d most disruptive business by Prince Andrew initiative Pitch@Palace. She has also recently been appointed as Director of Design Research at Room One Labs to define and explore the intersections between connected objects and virtual environments.

Tim Loo is the Strategy Director at Foolproof and head up their Experience Strategy practice. He take a lead role when their clients are looking to formally create an experience strategy, plan and measurement framework. It’s an exciting area to work in and an increasingly critical and integral part of many a corporate’s business strategy. As such, He is an advisor on customer experience strategy to their most senior clients and also act as client partner to some of their biggest accounts. On large experience design projects he usually take a strategy lead role working with the project sponsor and key stakeholders to articulate the business vision and the required outcomes to support their strategy. He work closely with researchers and designers to establish the intent and create assets to keep their design work both inspired and accountable. His particular talent is creating energy, excitement, focus and alignment for design teams and their stakeholders about what they really need to deliver to their customers to create value. He devise and run a lot workshops and get sent into the breach when their project sponsors need to get organisational support to push through on the sort of alignment and, dare He say it, trade-offs, needed to create great end to end customer experience. Oh and He write a lot of stakeholder communications like steering committee/senior management packs. He love the challenge of creating change in massive, multinational corporate organisations (yes love), and have experience with global brands in consumer electronics & entertainment, travel, banking, pharma and oil & energy in both B2C and B2B. He is really interested in how companies are adapting (or not) to the opportunity and threat of digitally empowered customers and what it takes to really make cultural change happen. He is active in the experience design strategy community and He sit on the Advisory Board of UX STRAT, the world’s first and leading conference for experience strategists and planners around the globe. He has strong opinions on the role of strategy in experience design and have had wonderful opportunities to speak, share and learn at conferences and events in the US, Europe and Asia.
