Lance Uggla is Chairman and CEO of IHS Markit. He served as president from July 2016 to December 2017 and was appointed chief operating officer in October 2017. Prior to the 2016 merger of IHS and Markit that formed IHS Markit, Lance was the chief executive officer of Markit, responsible for leading the company’s strategic development and managing day-to-day operations. He founded Markit in 2003 after spotting an opportunity to bring transparency to the credit default swap market. The company launched the first daily credit default swap pricing service that year. Grahame Chilton was named CEO of Arthur J. Gallagher’s UK-based international brokerage operations in February 2015, having worked in close partnership with Gallagher since December 2013 when reinsurance intermediary joint venture Capsicum Re was launched, led by Grahame as founding partner. He will continue in his role at Capsicum Re and also becomes a member of the senior leadership team of parent company Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. They then turned the business into a specialist company selling French Car Parts nationally. By 1998 the company had a turnover of £12 million, Stuart then purchased a German parts wholesaler. In 2000 the company was sold and became GSF Car Parts Ltd. This merger resulted in a £55 million 48 site national motor factor chain. From 2000 until 2007 Stuart was the Commercial Director in charge of Sales & Marketing for the group. In 2008 the entrepreneurial spirit kicked in again and Stuart formed Bluegrasscoms with the sole purpose of growing sales exclusively on behalf of OEM’s. With Stuart’s insight and amazing knack of judging the market Bluegrasscoms has grown sustainably and now offers a full range of consultancy services exclusively to OEM’s. In Stuart’s spare time he coaches his eldest sons rugby team and ferries his youngest all over the country to tennis tournaments. We employ nearly 500 people, based in 12 offices in nine countries, working with more than 10,000 linguists from 73 countries. Every month thebigword interprets over two million minutes of speech in 235 languages over the telephone globally and our linguists carry out 14,500 face-to-face interpreting appointments throughout the US and UK. We also translate 35 million written words every month in hundreds of languages. Technology has truly revolutionised our business with developments we could only have dreamed of 20 years ago. Just a few of the game-changing developments in that time have been: global online selling, over the phone interpreting, machine translation, and translation memory. Our Apprentice programme is one of the most successful in the UK. In just two years we have progressed 82 Apprentices through the scheme and 67 percent of them have gone on to full-time jobs in company. Recently I was proud to accept on behalf of thebigword the award for ‘Large Employer of the Year’ at the UK Apprenticeship Awards.
