Paul Higgs
Owner & CEO of Millbank Group
Paul Higgs is a Chartered planning and development surveyor, land specialist & developer with 30+ years’ experience in the sector, a soon to be published author and a successful entrepreneur (still, after coming-back from a severe RBS kicking in 2008!). Throughout his career Paul Higgs have purchased, gained planning permission for and built over 6,000 residential units and 2.5M sq/ft of commercial space. 14 years ago Paul Higgs formed what is now a multi-million pound property development company, Millbank Group, and in 2013 won The Evening Standard New Homes Award for ‘Best Apartment’. Many people know a lot about property, far fewer recognise the true value and importance of land. As a result, one of his main aims for 2016 and onwards is to mentor, educate and train more people in the skills required to successfully acquire land, create value, win the best planning permissions and develop property. Paul Higgs also lecture in advanced development valuations at South Bank University. Every successful development begins with Land (preferably ‘Brownfield’) – Finding the right opportunities, structuring the best deals, adding value through excellent design and negotiating the very best planning consents. Paul Higgs specialise in understanding the system inside-out and knowing how to best leverage it – often partnering with land owners, other professionals, agents, deal sourcers or not-for-profit organisations (we love using our skills to help make good things happen). As well as continuing to develop award-winning properties himself, his goal is to make a real difference to the supply of good, well-designed housing in the UK by supporting people in realising their dreams as successful entrepreneurs, deal creators, property investors and developers, so Paul Higgs is now training and mentoring others to show anyone interested in making money from land and development how to identify and generate the best off-market opportunities, maximise planning value, raise capital, buy and develop themselves.

Stuart Bartlett
CEO of Bluegrasscoms
Stuart started life in advertising sales working in London selling for a magazine Marketing Week. Having accrued some debts due to a hectic nightlife (so he says) he moved to Reading and began working for a small Motor Factor. That developed into a business opportunity that at 23 he perhaps wasn’t planning, but he and a friend purchased the motor factor from the receiver. They then turned the business into a specialist company selling French Car Parts nationally. By 1998 the company had a turnover of £12 million, Stuart then purchased a German parts wholesaler. In 2000 the company was sold and became GSF Car Parts Ltd. This merger resulted in a £55 million 48 site national motor factor chain. From 2000 until 2007 Stuart was the Commercial Director in charge of Sales & Marketing for the group. In 2008 the entrepreneurial spirit kicked in again and Stuart formed Bluegrasscoms with the sole purpose of growing sales exclusively on behalf of OEM’s. With Stuart’s insight and amazing knack of judging the market Bluegrasscoms has grown sustainably and now offers a full range of consultancy services exclusively to OEM’s. In Stuart’s spare time he coaches his eldest sons rugby team and ferries his youngest all over the country to tennis tournaments. When not doing that he is doing whatever his wife instructs him to, generally as with many others, whatever he is doing it is not enough.

Joshua Gould
Chief Executive Officer of thebigword
Welcome to my Crunchbase page. People refer to me as an entrepreneur and I think that the true test of an entrepreneur is to believe that you really can achieve your dreams, not just once but over and over. I’m now CEO of a $100 million company that I started from scratch but I began my working life as an apprentice and that’s why, throughout my career, I’ve been such a supporter of apprenticeships and training. My company, thebigword, is now one of the world’s largest tech-enabled language services companies. We employ nearly 500 people, based in 12 offices in nine countries, working with more than 10,000 linguists from 73 countries. Every month thebigword interprets over two million minutes of speech in 235 languages over the telephone globally and our linguists carry out 14,500 face-to-face interpreting appointments throughout the US and UK. We also translate 35 million written words every month in hundreds of languages. Technology has truly revolutionised our business with developments we could only have dreamed of 20 years ago. Just a few of the game-changing developments in that time have been: global online selling, over the phone interpreting, machine translation, and translation memory. Our Apprentice programme is one of the most successful in the UK. In just two years we have progressed 82 Apprentices through the scheme and 67 percent of them have gone on to full-time jobs in company. Recently I was proud to accept on behalf of thebigword the award for ‘Large Employer of the Year’ at the UK Apprenticeship Awards. I now divide my time between living in New York and Leeds, England and visiting our many global offices. I continue to be enthused and excited by business and the difference it can make to people’s lives.

Carrie Osman
Founder & CEO of Cruxy & Company
Carrie Osman Relentless energy & fierce provocation are what Carrie is know for in the worlds of Tech & FinTech. This is the ethos that imbues CRUXY&CO, of which Carrie is founder & Chief Provocateur. Fearlessness when it comes to saying the unsayable, a razor-sharp tongue & electric spark mean Carrie makes an unforgettable contribution speaking at events. She was included in Tech World’s 2017 List of women to speak at Tech Events, was a commentator BBC Business News (http://bit.ly/2tNbIlX), & has featured on panels for ING Bank, Association of Foreign Banks & Forward Women (Guardian). Running a portfolio of £300m & 12 brands, 7 years into Mars Inc, Carrie noticed a void. The consultancies provided the quantitative rigour, the marketing agencies offered the creative flare. True growth & traction demands both. CRUXY & CO was created with a mission to bridge this chasm & forge a creative approach to growth strategy. The complex, the intricate & technical FinTech & Tech industry is where Cruxy’s agitation & market strategy is deployed. No change takes place without challenge, & results from the 40+ clients Cruxy has worked with include: A payments firm sold to Barclaycard A retail tech business that shifted win rate from 30% to 80% An Infrastructure consultancy sold 10% of the business for £15m based on their positioning & ethos Carrie actively contributes her punchy opinion and mentors whenever she can at a number of accelerators such as Cocoon networks, XN tree at Level39 and the charity Bathroom to Boardroom. She is also on the Advisory Board of a Courtside Ventures backed Silicon Valley AI platform, a gold member of Fintech Circle and has judged both firms applying for FTC funding and coached at Angel Academy. Theadvice Carrie offers is valuable & actionable which means you don’t have to deploy McKinsey: guidance that shifts results in reality, not in your head. Suzanne Chishti, CEO & Founder of FINTECH Circle, Mark Beeston Founder of Illuminate Financial & Ian Hollowbread at ING Bank all talk of Carrie as an unknown force to be reckoned with. In rebellion against the staid & numbingly dull industry networking events, Carrie founded Currency of Connections: a handpicked founder & funder only drink series injected with true vitality & establishing real business-karma. She is known as a connector who always pays it forward, you just wait.
