Nik Kafka
Founder, Chief Executive Officer of Teach A Man To Fish (TAMTF)
Nik Kafka is the founder and Chief Executive of Teach A Man To Fish. Leaving a successful banking career in the City of London for a local microfinance institution in Paraguay, Nik discovered an innovative school aiming not only to teach the poor how to become rural entrepreneurs, but to do so as a self-financing social enterprise. Having helped transform this school into a replicable model, and realising the huge potential for funding education through enterprise rather than charity, he returned to the UK to found Teach A Man To Fish. Under his stewardship Teach A Man To Fish has grown into an international network whose membership now numbers over 4,500 education institutions and experts in more than 125 countries. Over 50,000 young people have benefited directly from Teach A Man To Fish programmes across Africa, Asia & Latin America. Honoured as a Young Global Leader in 2009 by the World Economic Forum, he was more recently named in 2011 as one of Devex’s 40 Under 40 International Development Leaders in London. He holds a first-class BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, an MSc in International Development from the School of Oriental & African Studies at the University of London, as well as professional qualifications in finance.

Aaron Ralby
CEO and founder of Linguisticator
I am a scholar and linguistic passionate about learning languages and helping others do the same. I hold a PhD in Medieval Studies from Cornell University, an MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from Cambridge, and a BA in Modern Language sand English from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. I know 20+ languages to varying degrees of fluency and founded my startup Linguisticator in 2013 in order to share my love of languages with others. The inspiration behind my startup lies with the memory techniques used by medieval monks to recall reams of scripture. Learners who use Linguisticator’s courses are taught how to build a memory palace in which to store the entire grammar of the language they are learning. In 2013, the UK’s Ministry of Defence gave us a grant to develop a scalable English language course for use in North Africa. This was trialled successfully in Tripoli, Libya, and actually performed better than traditional classroom-based instruction. Our English course is currently available free of charge to Arabic-speaking refugees who want to learn English. We have since created courses for Arabic (MSA), French, German, Italian and Spanish. We are working on courses for Farsi, Portuguese and Russian at the moment.

Ben Dunford
Founder & CEO of EPraise
Ben Dunford, 29, from Exeter, Devon has been a teacher since 2007. Prior to becoming a teacher, he studied for a BSc in Computer Science at the University of Exeter and a PGCE with South West Teacher Training. Ben came up with the idea for epraise in 2009 after noticing that his school’s reward system was not having much of a positive effect on the students, and was wasting a lot of administration time. In 2010 epraise launched in three local schools, and in 2012 epraise attended their first BETT show, which was a huge success. In 2013 Ben won the Express and Echo Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and began to cut back on teaching to focus more on epraise. Ben has continued to add new functionality and refinements to epraise almost every week. epraise has now developed way beyond just a rewards system and now incorporates many behaviour, learning, assessment and tracking tools which teachers use on a daily basis. The popularity of epraise has seen it grown beyond the UK into markets such as the USA and UAE. It’s still early days for epraise, but it’s certainly going very well indeed – in 2014 epraise more than doubled their takings.
