Alan Barr

Susanne Beveridge

Susanne was assumed as a partner in May 2009 having joined Brodies as an Associate in January 2008. Since qualifying as a solicitor in August 1999, Susanne has specialised in private client work, an area to which she is dedicated and thoroughly enjoys. Susanne advises on a variety of asset protection matters including wills, estate and succession planning, inheritance tax advice, formation, management and termination of trusts, charity law, powers of attorney, guardianship and intervention orders, planning for nursing home care costs and the administration of executries. Susanne is accredited by The Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Trust Law (re-accredited June 2015). Susanne is also a recognised specialist throughout the UK in setting up Family Limited Partnerships (FLPs). FLPs are an alternative tax planning vehicle to trusts and Susanne has been responsible for completing a large number of these for our clients, ranging from £1m to £45m in value. She has also contributed a number of articles in various publications on FLPs, as well as regularly speaking on the subject. In addition to being a qualified lawyer, Susanne is also a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians and of the Securities Institute. Susanne also tutored on the Diploma in Legal Practice at Edinburgh University for a number of years. Juliet Bayne

Juliet is a Partner specialising in pensions law. Her knowledge of pensions legal matters is wide-ranging and relates to both final salary and money purchase arrangements. Juliet’s experience includes: advising on the pensions aspects of corporate transactions/restructuring (including liaising with and submitting reports to the Pensions Regulator), advising on the Employer Debt legislation (“Section 75”), scheme wind ups and mergers, funding past service deficits on cessation of accrual, providing trustee training, compliance with the requirements of the Auto Enrolment regulations, advising on the legal aspects of pension scheme investment and on compliance with pensions-related legislation (e.g. in relation to part-time workers, sex and age discrimination, etc), and advising on Pension Protection Fund matters and litigation cases. As well as advising companies she acts for several pension scheme trustees (including trustees of schemes with plc employers). In terms of the public and third sectors, Juliet advises admission bodies and other scheme employers as well as some local authorities. Juliet is qualified as a solicitor in both Scotland and England & Wales, and is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers. She spent almost a decade working in the City of London, returning to Edinburgh in 2012.
