Robert Sant has been the Managing Director of AO Recycling since 2017. Prior to this he was and the Managing Director of The Recycling Group Ltd. The Recycling Group Ltd changed was renamed AO Recycling after a merger with AO World PLC. He has been managing companies in the recycling sector since 2002. AO Recycling is one of the largest processors and recyclers of fridges and waste electrical appliances (WEEE) in the UK. AO Recycling’s state of the art Andritz MEWA fridge and WEEE recycling plant is largest and the most advanced in the UK. The plant now processes more than 750,000 fridges per year at its Telford site. In addition to fridges the site processes other waste electrical equipment and is one of the largest reprocesses of white goods packaging in the UK. At the heart of the plant is a bespoke Andritz MEWA shredding machine which can process over 100 fridges an hour. The new cutting edge materials recovery technologies that Robert Sant helped to design and develop at Telford, have delivered a plant which is a jewel in the crown of UK recycling and which boasts industry-leading recovery rates for all of the materials. AO Recycling sell materials from the recycled fridges and LDA’s , including high quality shredded steel, plastics , compressors, motors, Polyurethane (PU) foam, copper and aluminium. The packaging processing system used at Telford was designed to achieve the highest quality separation of packaging. At its Telford facility AO Recycling also operates one of the largest reuse and refurbishment facilities in the UK. At this facility most categories of electrical appliances can be repaired for resale. The recycling plant in Telford is setting new standards in the recycling industry. It has recently also been awarded the highly coveted WEEELABEX standard. This not only proves the plant is world class, but always proves the operation meets the highly stringent requirements of WEEELABEX. Robert Sant is a specialist in all aspects of end-to-end recycling and materials recovery, as well as large scale project management, software development and systems analysis and have been the Managing Director of a recycling company for over sixteen years. Prior to this, and following his graduation from Liverpool University with a degree in mathematics and physics, he worked in IT for several years as a Senior Project Manager. The company specialised in developing and delivering software for large implementations within the areas of logistics, freight forwarding and shipping lines. They developed and implemented software all around the world for large Logistics customers such as TNT, DHL, Wincanton, Tibbet and Britten, Tech companies of the time such as Nokia and Hitachi, and Shipping companies such as Yang Ming . Robert Sant now lives near Chester with his wife Alison and their daughters Maddie, Jessica and Gabriella. When time allows he enjoys skiing, sailing and the outdoors.

Patrick has over 11 years of experience in the investment and corporate finance sector. Prior to joining the BGF, Patrick was Investment Director at Sigma Capital where he worked for six years investing development capital into the general tech and clean tech sectors across the UK and Europe. During his time at Sigma, Patrick worked on more than 30 investment rounds as well as various other transactions including restructurings, and trade sales, and worked closely with a number of portfolio companies.
