Tell us about yourself?
I founded Karus Systems Limited in May 1998 delivering software solutions to corporate clients. Five years ago the business rebranded and expanded as RentUrApp™. With a focus on Transport/Logistics and Customs Clearance, we built a series of apps supporting the business needs of our clients.
Before the advent of Karus Systems Limited, I worked as an electrical engineer for GEC in Rugby for fourteen years heading up various electrical and software automation design projects. During this time I graduating with a 1st in Information Technology with the Open University.
I have always been passionate about software and our business is constantly seeking new ways to develop RentUrApp solutions and improve the software we deliver to RentUrApp’s growing client base.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Keep focused on your goals. Ensure that you continue to work with the passion that made you want to succeed in the first place. Lastly, always focus on the details, as they matter.
What problem does your business solve?
RentUrApp solves multiple business challenges. From logistics challenges / transport issues with deliveries and customs clearance process improvements plus many others. All the RentUrApp applications have a core single focus to improve the business challenges faced by our clients.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Developing applications that solve real world challenges for businesses in the Logistics and Transportation sector. From scanning and deliveries, to planning routes and enabling a faster, smoother and more accurate Customs Clearance Process, to name a few.
The applications are always lead by our clients requirements with a focus on accuracy on reporting and taking away the load of time heavy manual tasks. We have developed a transparent commercial approach, devising a rental model for applications making them readily accessible for our clients avoiding costly set up ‘development’ fees.
What is your magic sauce?
A small, highly skilled team with the ability to flex our apps to suit bespoke individual business needs. We can achieve technical feats that other software businesses simply won’t attempt in order to deliver first class software applications to our clients.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Continue to grow the company, expanding our client portfolio into new markets whilst always delivering high value to our existing client base.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Incumbent applications already in place and being an ‘unknown’ in a new market; even when we know we have built a first class app for that market.
